Interweaving Tanya Maheshwari | Knitwear Designer and Fashion Illustrator from Delhi

Always on the lookout for fresh faces in fashion, Tanya Maheshwari’s work caught our eye for her quirky and individual take on the traditional Indian concepts of knitwear. Tanya learned to take interest in art from within the confines of her own home whilst devouring art catalogs and appreciating art knick-knacks picked up by her parents from across the world. The result is a series of fashion art and knitwear creations that are boldly colorful and refreshingly imaginative. Hi Tanya, tell us a bit about yourself. I’m currently studying knitwear design at NIFT, Delhi. So, I mostly work on knitwear like headgears, patterns embedded in knits, experimenting with structures, etc apart from fashion illustration. It was just last year when I sort of started developing an interest towards getting into this style. I usually shoot my work by wearing them myself and so I have loads of self-portraits on my iPhone with my work. I then use bits and pieces of these photographs to create fashion illustrations. What initially sparked your interest in this field? Well, …

Lusano Zakiesato from Nagaland is the Fashion Designer of your Dreams

Lusano of ‘Lusano Designs’ has come a long way since she started her label in 2014. Her first international show, a bridal show, was held in Abu Dhabi in  2016. She was also selected to show case her designs for IRW India Runway Week season 3 under the IFFD ( Indian Federation of Fashion Design council). Today we have chat with her to know more about how it all started. Tell us a bit about yourself. Born and brought in Nagaland, I completed my schooling from Delhi, and then went on to finish my fashion designing course from INIFD (International Institute of Fashion Design), Delhi. After that, I signed up for an additional month of pattern making course as I am fascinated with how the details of patterns can change the whole garment. Your key inspirations behind your designs? I started working on my brand collection (well actually just ‘my collection’ since I didn’t plan on a ‘Brand’ yet ) in my final year at INFID. At that time, my designs were inspired by anything and everything …

Achunbo Zeliang from Nagaland | 22-year-old Fashion Designer shares his Dream of Becoming a Global Success.

The more talents we continue to feature, the more we are convinced that Indian fashion talent space is vibrant, and yet very understated. Interestingly, most formidable talents in the industry start out young and aren’t afraid of reaching for the sky. Just like 22-year-old Achunbo Zeliang who started out as an independent fashion designer right after design school ; he has already hosted more than 15 fashion shows since then – in India, and abroad. Currently he is based out of New Delhi.   What has inspired you to become a fashion designer? I had always been very keen on fashion since my childhood days. Despite all that, I never thought I would become a fashion designer for real. But the idea came to me when I began sketching pieces for my family. That’s when I knew what I was meant to do. Being the first and only fashion designer from my community (Zeliang), I constantly try to stay be better than yesterday. Same time, I also try to encourage more and more people to join …
