“I love artworks from the Realist and Impressionistic art periods. They made me see the beauty in truth, in the ordinary, and in life.

My work leans toward portraiture most of the time. The reason being filled with a keenness for people and the stories they carry with them. And as a child, I’ve always loved listening to stories time and again. Moreover, everything about a person is just unique and there is so much to unravel.”

Growing up together, I am so excited to see where her talent is going to take her. Currently, she is pursuing fine arts as a student and she has already captured the hearts of many – with her signature dreamy portraits in acrylic.

Worthy to note that she always had a keen interest in stories and people, and that comes out beautifully through each stroke in all her paintings. Die Hard Soccer Fan and Coffee Lover Dikhri Wezah Opens Soccer Cafe in Kohima to Bring His Two Passions Together.

Introducing a dear friend of mine, who has inspired me all these years with his ‘can-do’ attitude, and a zealous attitude towards life. Say hi to Dikhri Wezah from Kohima – a passionate and hardworking comrade of mine. At just 25 years of age, he has accomplished a major goal he has set for himself. Knowing the kind of person that he is, I know that this is just the beginning.

A year ago, over a casual conversation, he shared about his dream to open a cafe, where he can merge his love for football and food – specifically to promote a healthy lifestyle. So when I received an invitation to the opening of his restaurant last November, I was overjoyed and told myself with a smile ‘The deed has been done indeed.’ And true to his vision, Dikhri’s ‘Soccer cafe’ is a hip hang out spot for football lovers in Kohima, where one can enjoy live screenings, healthy food, and great coffee. So let’s have a chat with Dikhri to get more details.

Two Sisters from Nagaland Bring Eco Friendly Soy Candles for the Conscious Consumer 💚Chat with Creators of ‘Millennials & Gen Z’ Candles

I sat down with sisters Nuzosalu and Akholu Nyekha – founders of ‘Millennials & Gen Z’ candles over the weekend to take you through their venture in detail. They specialize in making scented candles, or ‘therapy candles’ as they call it, using soy wax, which is biodegradable and hence much more environment-friendly. Even more impressive is the fact that they started this venture as a hobby during the pandemic lockdowns - in-spite of their full time academic commitments (students of MBBS and B.Arch).

~ interview by @menuleee

“We realized that most millennials and Gen Zs are environmentally and socially conscious consumers. We saw how individuals under these groups are choosing sustainable fashion over fast fashion, and not just fashion but this consciousness extends across many aspects of their lifestyle. We strongly feel that this young group of consumers can make a difference through their lifestyle choices.” ~ @millennials_and_genz

“I am here today with Keny Metha from Kohima – a self-confessed lover of all things food and cooking. Her creative hobbies serve as a treasure trove for her friends and followers – to discover new cuisines, cooking styles, and plenty of other creative arts. Learn How to Make Manipur’s Favorite Salad ‘Yongchak Singju’

Contributor : @menuleee 👇🏻

“Today, I invited Khevito Elvis Lee also known as ‘The Tribal Chef’ (on Instagram) to teach me how to make my favorite Yongchak Singju. I am an ardent admirer and follower of his work – especially his food posts. He lives up to his name as ‘The Tribal Chef’ by regularly sharing a range of local dishes from Northeast India.

Yongchak Singju is a local’s favorite – especially in Nagaland and Manipur. It is made of Yongchak (monkey beans) which is a popular local ingredient, often used in making authentic Manipuri specialties like Eromba and Singju. It is a long twisting bean that is a member of the pea or beans family. Yongchak beans have an unusual smell and are crisp, soft, and tender with a rich and pungent flavor. Now, let’s learn how to make Yongjak Singju - Elvis Lee’s style.”👨‍🍳

Sulika Swu's review of 'Between the World and Me' by Ta-Nehisi Coates

“I went through this book twice because once wasn't enough to truly let the essence of it sink in. Quite frankly, another reason was I had to do a bit of wrestling with the use of intellectual language.

Between the World and Me is an essay/letter written by Ta-Nehisi Coates to his adolescent son. In here, Coates has poured out what it meant to be a young black man growing up in the 90s in America. His narration was a new vantage point from where I came as close to truly understand what it feels like to share a country with a race whose forefathers oppressed them in the most inhuman ways.

~~~~~~~~~~// ~~~~~~~~~~
From an outsider's point of view, anyone can observe that white Americans have a unique responsibility to offer compensation for the irreparable damage they've done to a generation of black people that still lives with its scars. This has to come by consciously breaking down the walls they've built to shut them out, by curing themselves of the belief that dark-skinned people are dangerous to a society that they built, when in fact, history is proof that it has always been the other way round.
The book was such a great compendium of insight on Black lives in America. The take-away from here was underlined with visceral wisdom. It gave me so much to question, to apply this thinking into my own space as a person of colour, of a different ethnicity living among hundreds of other such groups. Writing is one thing, but for a writer to weaponise their story to prod someone else's comfortable views on society is hard to come by yet Coates champions gloriously at that.”
“Every Time I Finish a Book, I want to Take it Apart and Discuss with Fellow Book Lovers” ~ Sulika Swu, on Why She Started Her Bookstagram Account
Interview by @denodolie_ 👇🏻
I have a passion for traveling and meeting new people. I find it immensely gratifying to venture out in the open and explore. Similarly, I have a bunch of friends, who have their own ways of finding adventure in their stack of books. Just like I would come back with stories from my travels, they would passionately share tales from their latest read. Always makes for a lovely conversation!
Today I am here with a booklover friend of mine – Sulika Swu from Kohima. She has an insatiable appetite for books – all kinds, and personally, I find her reading list very interesting. However, her well-written reviews are the real deal. She also recently launched a bookstagram as a way to journal her reading list and reviews on each - and connect with fellow book lovers through the account. So stay on with me and Sulika as we chat books, her current favorites and more.
Young Photographer Albert Rutsa from Nagaland Inspires Us to Take a Cue from Storytellers of Yore to Tell New Stories. By @denodolie_
Albert is from Kohima Village and his pictures depict so much about our Naga way of life. Going through his pictures is a beautiful reminder about our Naga identity and about our simple lifestyle and practices. I chat with Albert, an old friend, about his love for Naga culture, how he started his visual storytelling hobby, and some more.
“Growing up I have always been fascinated by the stories and folktales my parents and elders would share, my imagination would run wild and I would constantly picture the stories in my mind. It instilled in me, a love for our culture and a desire to preserve it.” ~ Albert Rutsa
I think 2020 has taught each one of us many things. And honestly, it has taught me how to live in the moment.
As I captured, what I believed 'to live in the moment' picture, I thought of the things that I'm grateful for. To cherish the little things in life. To be more in awe of nature. To be content. To be happy and grateful for all.
2020 was an uncertain year, but nevertheless, I believe it has taught us many things.
2020 will forever be etched in everyone’s memory as a tumultuous year filled with a myriad emotions. Some experienced great hardship, pain, loss & grief. While others finally got a much needed break from life.
I’ve been extremely fortunate to be a part of the latter group. It was a year of rediscovering my passion for all the things that I couldn’t pursue in life. I learnt Italian, Spanish, French and also got enough time to pursue Music and Fitness. But the one thing I enjoyed most was my culinary experiments in the kitchen and creating dishes from scratch. A lifetime of unfulfilled dreams packed into a handful of months.
It’s very hard to pick just one photo that inspired me during these trying times but I’ve chosen this photo based on public opinion. The very humble Italian Biscotti.
I don’t think I’ll get a time like this to indulge in all my hobbies ever again and I feel extremely blessed to be able to end 2020 on a high note.
Hoping that 2021 will make up for all the time lost and plans unfulfilled  in 2020. Happy New Year everyone.
Twice-baked, oblong, dry & crunchy, Biscotti is traditionally served with a drink into which they may be dunked. It has many variants ranging from fruit & nut to chocolate chip and everything in between. Typically served after dinner with a sweet wine called Vin Santo but it is also a staple at breakfast served with a Shot of Espresso. .
“ #2020 I have no words to describe this year. I do however have a ton of obscene gestures, because it went a little too much harsh on some and a little too less lenient on some. Some say it is a catastrophic tragedy, but deep down all of us agree that it aligned our life's drama towards our destiny and not our history. Keep in mind that happiness is not the absence of problems but the ability to deal with them."
But how heartwarming is to watch this heroine come to the rescue and made them her own!🤗
It warms my heart to see such a selfless act from animals. It surely made my heart merrier this Christmas🎄✨♥️.
This is a picture of the Myntra Delivery man in my locality. I took this picture today as he was delivering an order.
In the month of September this year,it so happened that once as he was delivering the orders in our block;a big white carry bag as visible in the picture was let loose. And as an aftermath,he came to our home asking us if we had seen any big carry bag dropped off in our block. To which our reply was a No.Since there is a WhatsApp group of our Block,my mom took the initiative asking if anyone has seen the carry bag anywhere in our locality.Much to our relief,what soon followed was that a fellow block member called stating that they had found the carry bag. To which then,my parents went and collected the carry bag. We then contacted a known person,the head of this courier service to which he informed the Delivery man eventually. Wasting no time,the Delivery man came and collected from my place. As he came home,I was just observing his face which was all smiles ofcourse. He couldn't stop thanking my parents.After that particular incident,he never failed to not bring all our orders directly at home. Which actually doesn't happen much in our block citing the fact that the block itself is so deep inside.
There's nothing profound or anything as such in my narration here. But yeah,that particular day definitely taught me how it doesn't make much to brighten up one's day given the collective effort we put in on all our parts.
News started cracking up, doors shut down, planes from one end to another, every eye distinctly carried the look of fear behind the masks. Suddenly the world seemed to have flipped upside down. Where yesterday, it still shone, the present was dark and eerie. The world was at the onset of a pandemic and in a snap of a finger, everything changed. Life changed!
Amidst all these, a new life began for my days-old nephew, unknown of the chaos around. I gazed and held him in wonder; a new life began for him and us. As I recall capturing this picture, whilst also choosing to upload the same, I realised, though our minds lingered in fear, with every step, with every breath, still, we were blessed.
This filled me with hope. Hope that better days were yet to come. That like yesterday, the present shall pass, and a better tomorrow awaits.
A better world patiently waiting..
The moment I read the post, I was sure that i'd post this.
2020 has been a year none of us ever imagined. At one point, we were all strictly confined to our own homes.
I took this picture from the car one evening when things slowly started getting back to normal.
The sky was DIVINE. I always loved nature but the beauty that evening was just something else. I desperately wanted to get off the car to feel the breeze and enjoy the sunset, which our circumstance did not allow.  It made me feel a thousand emotions but one thing I felt so deeply was the urgency to appreciate all the beauties of everyday life.
I feel, on a normal day, I wouldn't have appreciated the beauty as much as I did that evening. It made me realise how we only appreciate things when we are deprived of it.
I decided to post this picture because now that I think back though I like many other final year student was robbed of experiencing the sublime joys of bonding over good food and music with my peers and professors one last time, at least I had this pleasant day. A day with the people ive spend 2 years learning.
