The many facets of music makes it possible for artists across genres and styles to reach listeners in their various moods. Today’s guest is our first electronic music artist to be introduced here. Vitz Zhimo a.k.a. MOZZEY, is a music producer, writer and a performing artist from Nagaland.

Known for his feel-good music and host of interesting collabs – including the famous ‘Come With Me‘ with Virie and Zaza, his latest project is an EP called ‘Bedroom Stories‘ which features artists like Rochee and Tiger Darrow from New York, and Canadian Hip Hop artist City Fidelia. We chat with him to now more about him, his music and his latest projects.

EDM artist, music producer, and writer Vitz Zhimo chats with R&L about his style of music, his creative philosophy and the influence of his family – especially his mother, on him choosing a musical career.

• Hi Vitz. Tell us about yourself and what you’ve been up to?

Hey, my name is Vitolu (Vitz) Zhimomi. I write music as MOZZEY and also as NVYKO. I’m a full-time music producer, musician and touring artist currently based in Kohima, Nagaland. I am signed to Deep Sound Entertainment, an Artist & Music Management and Touring Agency based in New Delhi.

I make feel-good electronic music that you can dance to or vibe out to or stroke your cat/dog to. I’ve been writing some new tunes and also been watching Conan O’Brien bully Jordan Schlansky 😀

• What sparked your interest in playing and making electronic music?

I grew up in a very musical family. My mom played a lot of guitar and harmonica and I have a lot of other family members on my mother’s side who are singers, songwriters, and musicians. My mom would always play guitar and sing these old classic country tunes for us. Music was just sort of always around.

“I began playing drums when I was around 13 or 14 and was in a bunch of bands in high school. And started producing music in the fall of 2015, when I heard Owl City and got hooked to the type of music he was making. It got me to start messing around with sounds on FL Studio and yeah, I never looked back I guess… Now, I make electronic music and tour the world performing my tunes.”

In this digital world, you have software where you can save your work, go back to it and create a whole symphony of sounds to it by adding drums and effects… I think that’s wicked cool!

• How did you get into music production?

Music was always there in my family. I was exposed to the foundations of electronic music production through the internet and had friends who installed DAWs (like FL Studio and Ableton) and bought MIDI controllers. I began experimenting with making music on my computer and picked up different types of production skills and tricks on my own… I was just a kid messing around with sounds and knobs.

• What is your work philosophy? What are some things that inspire you creatively?

My philosophy, when it comes to my work, is to write something new and creative every day, never procrastinate and always approach a challenge with an open mind.

“I am inspired by traveling, seasonal changes, friends, records and mostly random everyday moments.”

• What do you hope people take away from your music?

I hope my music makes someone feel better when they’re having a hard day. And also “Less Hate, More Love” is a motto I live by. There isn’t enough love in the world so I hope to do my bit to spread some through my music.

• Tell us about your latest release.

It’s an EP called “Bedroom Stories” and is probably the most creative work I’ve ever done in my life. I co-wrote this EP with the awesome Mhaseve Tetseo. It features some amazing and talented artists like Rochee and Tiger Darrow from New York and the amazing Canadian Hip Hop artist City Fidelia. It was such an honor to work with them.

“Bedroom Stories is just a good collection of beats; something that you can just press play and get your vibe on while you’re hanging out with your friends, while driving your car, cooking or whatever. It’s just good background music.”
