How many of us are familiar with the concept of the American Dream? This grand aspiration has inspired countless individuals worldwide, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and achieve great success in America. We had the opportunity to meet Keren Longkumer, a courageous young talent hailing from Northeast India, who embodies this spirit.

Keren was born in Medziphima, spent some years in Kohima, and completed her education in Sanawar, Himachal Pradesh. Following her academic journey, she embarked on a path to Los Angeles to study shoe design—a decision that would prove to be fateful. In this vibrant city, she crossed paths with another budding artist, Valerie Quant, who shared Keren’s passion for unconventional forms, proportions, materials, and meticulous attention to detail.

Today, both Keren and Valerie proudly stand as co-founders of LOQ, an internationally recognized footwear brand with operations spanning four cities and a thriving online presence. With a bold vision to redefine classic designs for modern women, LOQ aims to unveil a new perspective on women’s shoes.

Here’s an exclusive interview with Keren Longkumer from Nagaland – co-founder of LOQ

• R&L: What does LOQ stand for?

Keren: LOQ is basically derived from the surnames of me and my co-founder, Valeri Quant’s names. We met in 2011 while studying footwear design in Los Angeles. We are from opposite sides of the world, Valerie is from Los Angeles and I’m from Nagaland. And yet, we found we shared a common passion for form, proportions, and materials. We founded LOQ in 2015.

• R&L: What separates LOQ from other footwear brands?

Keren: We make footwear that is simple, and easy to wear. The intention is to redefine classics for the modern-day woman. Our customers have loved what we have presented them with. Some of our best sellers for Fall are – The Lazaro boots, the Villa pumps, and the Lucia flats.

• R&L: Where do you retail? Is LOQ available for Indian customers?

Keren: Yes. We are currently stocked in Los Angeles, New York City, Vancouver, and Dubai, and also online at loq.us. The price ranges from $290 to $495. Unfortunately, they’re not available in Indian retail outlets, but I’m trying to take some time out and travel to Mumbai to check out a few stores 🙂
