A little introduction to the people behind the brand ‘Skin Concepts’
Skin Concepts is the brainchild of two budding entrepreneurs, Tina and Vivo. Tina is an Arts graduate from Delhi University who returned to Dimapur after a brief stint in Delhi at Jupiter Capital. Tina is currently fully invested in Skin Concepts. While Vivo, who hails from Kohima, is also an Arts graduate (from Delhi University) and has an MBA degree from James Cook University, Singapore. She has worked in Singapore for two and half years at Glutz Singapore, and is currently working full time as a planning assistant in the Planning and Coordination department for the government of Nagaland.
Let us have a chat with the ladies and find out more . . .
- So what is ‘Skin Concepts’ all about?
Skin Concepts is an e-commerce website selling authentic, carefully curated Korean skincare and beauty products. We officially launched our online store on the 1st of July this year . We currently have over 23 brands, and we are constantly adding more.Thing is, there are just so many amazing products that we would like to introduce to our customers . At present, we do not retail offline.
- What was the inspiration behind the whole idea and why did you bet on Korean skincare products?
We’ve always been skincare fanatics and are constantly on the lookout for interesting and, more importantly, effective products. That’s how we first discovered Korean skincare and beauty products about eight years ago and never looked back since then. We love these skincare brands because neither other international brands nor the local ones offer the effectiveness, functionality, price range, research technology, and the range of unique ingredients as Korean products do. The attractive packaging is also a plus point. (Some of them are really cute!)
People increasingly are starting to take notice of Korean skincare and beauty products, but a lot of them don’t have access to them – or rather, find the process of ordering from international websites too much of a hassle. They are either too expensive, or has long and cumbersome ordering process (for some, you need to pay customs fee) and also quite often, there’s no guarantee you’ll receive your parcel. We’d been toying with this idea since last year and we finally decided to take the plunge and go for it.
Our goal is to make K-beauty and skincare easily accessible, affordable and provide a seamless shopping experience to customers. We recently launched our Android app.iOS app is also in the works.
- So which of your products have been your top sellers?
We make it a point to only stock products that have good reviews and are proven to be effective. Our bestselling products are of a wide range from repair creams, vitamin serums, snail masks to eyebrow stylers and water tints (lip tints). Anything that has snail mucin and whitening products tends to sell very well in this market. Korean brands are known for their cutting-edge and unique nature-derived ingredients such as snail mucin, bee venom, starfish extract, pig collagen, placenta, gold, caviar etc. They also popularized the anti-wrinkle ingredient, Syn-ake, which is a synthetic form of snake venom.
Skin Concepts have an interesting collection across skincare, makeup and quite a few exotic picks. Here’s a sneak peek into their best sellers:
- That’s quite an exotic product line-up! What price range are the items available in?
We are an online store catering solely to the Indian market. We feature pocket-friendly brands such as Etude House, Secret Key, Tonymoly, The Face Shop; mid-range brands such as Missha, Tosowoong, Mizon, Skinfood;as well as high-end brands such as Clio, Iope and others. We are also excited to introduce more brands in all price ranges in the near future.
There’s something on offer for every budget actually. Our products range anywhere from₹150 to ₹3500 and up.
Do keep a lookout on our website for more details!
