Hi girls! Tell us a little bit about yourselves.
We are Shreya (Pinkey) and Shraddha (Tinku) Rai from Gangtok, Sikkim and we are 22 years old. We’re twins and both of us are currently pursuing our Master’s in English. We have a lovely pet cat called Tenten. We run and create content for our YouTube channel – “Twins&theothergirl” – with our best friend Prakrithi Pradhan. It’s all about our daily lives in our hometown – what we eat, what we wear, and where we hang out.

What do you do full-time and how do you get time to work on your videos?
We are full-time students. But when we don’t have exams or assignments to submit, we are usually free so we go out to film, eat, hang-out and edit. That is pretty much what we do to manage college with our passion project.

What are your biggest inspirations? What are some creative rules you follow?
When it comes to inspiration, we watch a lot of films, movies and videos on YouTube. There are a lot of content creators who inspire me like this Korean girl named Sueddu. She just films the room that she lives in with sounds of nature and her quiet and minimal life. It’s so relaxing… It’s like breathing is easier when we watch her videos. We wish people would feel the same when they watch our videos… We want to comfort them.
We don’t have any rules that we follow actually. To be honest, we go with the flow. But one thing that we like to do is to shoot things or people when they are in their own natural state – without them being conscious of how it will turn out in the video. When the other person doesn’t know he or she is being filmed, they are just being themselves and the video comes out really good. We like it when things are real.

What got you into making videos and running your own YouTube channel?
We randomly posted a video on YouTube one day. I don’t really remember why but we just posted it and we got a lot of feedback. So, we just decided that “we should do this!”. It was basically an idea to document our twenties and watch it later when we’re older. We want to see ourselves grow and change day by day.

What’s the best thing about life in Sikkim?
The best thing about living in Sikkim is the weather and the water.
“The weather is always so pleasant and the air feels so good to breathe. The water here is so clean and free – we can drink directly from the taps. It is a blessing because most people in our country barely have access to safe drinking water.”

Which other cities in India and in the world would you like to settle in and why?
We would like to settle in Seoul, Korea because we are both huge K-Pop fans. I love Korean culture and food. In India, it would be Pondicherry because we’ve always wanted to go to France and it’s a French colony. We love the colorful buildings and quaint cafes that lend to the coastal vibes perfectly.
-
What do you hope people take away from your videos?
“Our videos are not luxurious so we hope that people can relate more with how normal they are. We also want to show our local culture, food and everything about our hometown. We want people to feel at ease and understand that living a simple life is not bad at all.”

What is your favorite local spice used in Sikkimese cuisine?
We eat this chili called “Dalle” with almost everything we eat. We love eating spicy food.

What is trending in your circles at Gangtok and Sikkim right now?
Social media! Everybody uses Instagram and these days people our age have their own blogs and have also recently started using YouTube. It’s very popular among us younger folks around the world. It is a platform where everyone connects very conveniently.
