The succulent craze is taking over the world (well the Instagram world atleast!). We know atleast one friend, who is crazy over succulents – and it’s a growing tribe! So we reached out to some of the people in Northeast, India, who are somewhat obsessed with growing succulents as a hobby. We caught up with them to check out their collection, their most prized item from their collection, and of course, to hear from them directly as to what it means to grow succulents as a hobby.
Note : Succulents are plants that store water in their stems, roots, and leaves, and they exist in beautiful shapes – some of them imitating interesting flowers, forms – and hence making them an interesting collector interest

“Succulent and cactus as a hobby is very addictive and needs a lot of patience but the joy and pleasure you derive from keeping those delicate plants alive is worth all the effort. Eulychnia castanea cv. varispiralis cristata, is my most prized item. It’s a very rare crested form very much sought after by collectors. I had to bet very hard on eBay to get it. Had to pay a fortune but worth every penny.”

“I collect cacti and succulents just for the simple fact that they make me immensely happy from the inside, and also, of course, for their aesthetic value. They have that power to instantly bring smile on my face. No wonder, they take the place just next to my kids in my priority list. I mean, just look at them or adopt one and you’ll understand what I am saying!”

“I have been collecting these precious gems since long and have also won a prize for a succulent at the Hornbill Festival 2016. It is my dream that one day we will become producer/supplier and not consumer/buyer of these amazing plants because we have the advantage of the weather on our sides.”

“Succulents are surprisingly so beautiful with kaleidoscope of brilliant colors and amazing geometry. They exhibit so much of happiness and positivity in life. Just nurturing and watching them grow is so therapeutic and a huge stress reliever. And, thus my hobby of growing succulents. I couldn’t be more thankful to my friend, Azai Kerhuo who has been influential in introducing me to this wonderful leisure. Happy Growing everyone! Spread the love and joy.”
