The Serious & Soulful Singer/Songwriter from Nagaland – Tokaholi Chishi

Gifted with a flair to write verses and compose melodies, Tokaholi Chishi, is a musician with perfervid passion whose narratives resonate a perfect  balance of singing and story-telling.  We had a chat with Tokaholi to talk about her love for music, her life, and her roots. Hello! Could you tell us briefly about yourself? My name is Tokaholi Chishi and I live in Dimapur. I write songs and I play the acoustic guitar (albeit not very skilfully) , I try to voice out my passion in undulating tunes, just like life- some times high, some times low! What is your process when it comes to composing songs and what kind of genre do you prefer? I like to write, whether it is poetry or a story. I  add melody and soul as mediums to communicate and connect with the listeners. Music serves as a great tool to tell stories, that’s my primary goal and when it comes to a genre there is no fixed style. (independent music would hopefully fit the bill).   When did …

This Gifted and Humble Singer Songwriter Talks about His Musician Family Roots | Meet Abdon Mech from Nagaland

Born into a family of four, where every other member is a musician including his  father, mother and sister, this humble 21 year old singer songwriter took his calling for music on a serious note just a year ago. Though a new entrant as an artist, his soulful rendition of melody and heartfelt lyrics makes him a star already. His voice can slide into the slow 70’s jazz while also gracefully blending into the peppy pop beats. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in English and will be pursuing my Masters in the same soon. Introduce us to your work. What got you started? Music started very very late for me and unlike most stories, I did not grow up wanting/knowing to be a musician even though both my parents …

The Lady Who Makes Cuddly Crochet Dolls | Ashibo

Someone wise once said, “There are two kinds of people in the world – those who love dolls and those who don’t yet know that they love dolls.” A doll’s journey to being born in its maker’s imagination and then later in our world begins decades earlier. It begins with a gathering of a lifetime of seemingly unrelated skills, which then one day collide and end up in complete and total creative harmony. And then slowly and steadily, dolls carry millions of children across the world into a world of sheer happiness. Today we met up with one such talented maker, Ashibo who has been creating some super cute handmade crochet dolls. Cute and stylish (just like the lady who makes them), it looks as if the dolls await to tell us a story, and Ashibo is their chosen medium. Were we right or were we just making things up in our minds? We asked Ashibo to help us answer. What was the inspiration behind creating these beautiful crochet dolls?  Well, I have always loved knitting …
