2018 is almost winding up, and we’ve had a fantastic and memorable year! We hope you guys had a great year too. Having said that, the current mood for most of us is that of finding the best ways to spend the last few hours of the year – with some hoping to spend in solitude – in reflection and charting out the plan for 2019, and some busy planning a get-together party for friends and family, while some folks be excited about welcoming the new year over some celebratory party, or any of the many plans – according to one’s taste. Everything and anything goes . . . let’s just hope we are in the best of shape to say goodbye to 2018 – and welcome the new year!
Today’s post is for all the Men who plan to go out on NYE. Our trusted member for Men’s Fashion – Karan Chetri from Nagaland, who runs an Instagram fashion blog called “The Thrift Ensemble” is here to share some great outfit ideas for Men – for their NYE soirée. So guys get ready to take notes for a fashionable last party of the year! [Model: Karan Chetri; Photographs by Rajat Limbu]
“New Year’s Eve is just around the corner and I know campfire around the backyard is a thing in Nagaland during the last days of the year. So if you happen to be attending a formal event or a campfire party for the NYE, this lookbook I’ll be sharing today is all about stepping into 2019 with style. One thing to keep in mind is that you have to feel comfortable in what you wear i.e don’t wear something that will freeze your fun. You might have to dance as well 🙂” ~ Karan Chetri, The Thrift Ensemble

Look 1: Formal Party
For the formal party wear, Karan styled his outfit with a tuxedo and a self-tie bow tie, paired with a red bordered-white pocket square and a black patent penny loafer
“Here I went with a velvet black tuxedo dinner jacket worn over a white shirt with French cuffs. The bow tie that I’m wearing is self-tied, and it speaks volume about a gentleman when he can tie his own bow-tie. The trousers are again tuxedo trousers, which I’ve paired with a black patent penny loafer. To complete the whole look, I have added a cummerbund and a white pocket square with red borders – done in a four-point fold. {Pocket square by Peluche}”

Look 2: Office Party
For an office year-end party, Karan styles his outfit with a long duffle coat over a light double breasted blazer, paired with contrasting navy blue trousers. Keeping to the theme of ‘Classy Chic’, he adds a solid blue colored tie and suede loafers to complete the look
“This look is suitable for an outdoor formal event/party. I am wearing a double-breasted cream colored blazer, with a navy blue tie and a classic white shirt. The trick here is to wear the same colored tie as your trousers for a harmonious look. Compete the look with loafers – here I am wearing my brown suede loafers with tassels, and light olive green socks for a playful touch – to go with the evening mood.
I like to wear socks and shoes in contrasting colors to break the monotony of an otherwise formal outfit.
Then to bring the whole outfit together I put on a camel colored duffel coat. Make sure the outer coat is a little oversized (for an layered look like this),so that it does not become uncomfortable to move around. {Blazer by Neil Katter; Shoes by Hirel’s}”

Look 3: The British Look
For the British look, it’s all about layering. Here, Karan wears a turtleneck sweater layered with a Burberry trench coat. He wears his favorite navy blue trouser and goes for a double monk strap shoe by Brune to complete this stylish-yet-uber comfortable look!
“For this look, I went with a blue turtleneck sweater with a trench coat over it. The trench coat is a light garment worn mostly during rainy seasons, but if you can get a Burberry trench coat that usually has a removable inner layer which can be removed during warmer seasons, then it’s a good year-round outerwear. It can also last for years!
Here I am wearing a thrifted Burberry trench coat with brown driving gloves; for the bottom, I am again wearing my favorite blue trousers, with a double monk strap shoe by Brune. {Trench coat by Burberry; Shoes by Brune}”

Look 4: The Bonfire Party
For the last look, which is an outdoor evening/night party, Karan goes for comfort and warmth with a navy blue peacoat over a turtleneck sweater and a beanie. And true to his style, he adds just the right amount of style and class with his navy blue trousers and suede loafers.
“It’s usually quite chilly outside during the winters in Nagaland (with temperature currently hovering around 5-8°C post sunset). So keeping the cold in mind, I have created this last look. I went with a blue turtleneck sweater with a navy blue peacoat. You can pop the collar of your coat for some extra warmth, as it can help keep the wind away from your face and neck. Plus, it can add a quiet nonchalance to your look.
Then I wore a beanie for a dash of style – and most importantly to keep away the chilly air.For the bottom part, I am wearing my favorite blue trousers – paired with my suede loafers worn with contrasting color socks (in light olive green)”
